As a singing teacher and vocal animateur, Jessica has considerable experience encouraging people to sing and developing voices, both in one to one lessons and in large group workshops. Since 2006 she has had her own singing teaching practice in central Cambridge teaching students of all ages and abilities. She teaches singing one day per week at The Perse School (Upper); her student successes there include Oxbridge choral scholarships, NYMT auditions and ABRSM grades 6 & 8 distinctions. She teaches undergraduate choral scholars at St Catharine's College, University of Cambridge and at the Centre for Young Musicians, a division of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Jessica has also led, assisted or performed in many education projects for Opera North, English Touring Opera and the Royal Opera as well as orchestras and music services and she has been the vocal animateur for several large scale singing projects in London.
She taught singing for several years in Tower Hamlets for the music service (THAMES) leading much of the vocal provision, including youth choirs, singing lessons in schools and short term vocal projects. She also wrote the Vocal Teaching framework document for the peripatetic teachers. Jessica taught singing for Newham Music Service running adult evening singing groups as well as one to one lessons.
In 2006, following two years of touring, she undertook a three month placement in Belize, Central America working on behalf of the Belize Ministry of Education to lead creative arts workshops and teaching in five rural schools in southern Belize. This work was documented and a report written for the Ministry at the end of her time there. She also trained the teachers to deliver creative arts lessons and provided a teaching document they could use.
Past projects also include ‘Find Your Voice’ courses for adult singer beginners, a regular singing project with people with severe mental illness and three years for the Drake Music Project working with disabled musicians via music technology. She was a vocal workshop leader for the Trinity Guildhall/Open University CPD KS2 music programme. In 2018 she co-led a vocal project with school children in Bangalore, India on behalf of The Perse School.
In 2019 Jessica qualified from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with a Post-Graduate Certificate in Performance Teaching (Higher Education). She is DBS checked, on the update service and has taken the NSPCC/Musicians’ Union course Keeping Children Safe in Music.
She is a member of EQUITY, AOTOS (Association of Singing Teachers) and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
